Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should I expect in a Functional Wellness initial consult?
For the initial consult, I really want to get to know you. Before our consult begins, I thoroughly go through your intake forms to get an idea of who you are, where you need help and brainstorm about the best directions for us to take. We will talk about what lab work would be necessary to best find the roots of these problems and also discuss some diet and lifestyle changes you should make while we wait for the lab work to be completed.
Q: How do the labs work?
The labs are all non-invasive and can be done in the comfort of your own home. Depending on your case, you will either collect saliva, stool or urine samples into the provided containers. All kits come with a UPS pre-paid shipping envelope (in the United States) and can be dropped off at the nearest UPS store. The results are sent to me and then we will go over them in our consult!
Q: Are you a doctor?
No. Doctors are trained and licensed to diagnose and treat specific diseases, which is not part of my business. I aim to discover WHY you feel the way you feel, and fix it at the root. My extensive training and education allows me to run cutting edge diagnostic labs that look thoroughly into the body’s systems and find where problems might be starting. From there, I design supplement, nutrition, and lifestyle protocols that can correct the problems, thus, restoring normal and optimal body function. As a result, the body often rids itself of the diseases and symptoms, even though they are never directly “treated” by me.
Q: Why doesn’t my doctor know about these labs?
Doctors serve a very important purpose and are often vital in overcoming serious disease. However, they are trained primarily in disease management and in prescribing pharmaceuticals to help manage symptoms of disease, not addressing where the diseases begin. In medical school, unfortunately, MDs are not trained in functional medicine, which looks at malfunctions in the body systems (the root cause). These simply cannot be corrected and prevented by pharmaceuticals.
Q: How fast will I feel better?
Usually, you can expect to feel improvements in your wellbeing within 3-4 weeks, and sometimes more quickly than that. It truly depends on your situation and how well you can adhere to the supplement protocol, along with the dietary and lifestyle changes. The more committed you are, the better your results will be.
Q: Who can benefit from my services?
Anybody who isn't as healthy as they would like to be, who is also ready to learn and make some changes. I can help many problems, big or small. You can learn more here.
Q: Will my insurance cover this?
Similar to other alternative practitioners, I cannot accept insurance. My services fall above the normal standard of care and into “preventative” categories. However, some of the lab costs may be paid for with a Health Savings Account (HSA) and some insurance companies will reimburse you for lab fees..
Q: How much do the labs cost?
Currently, the foundational lab costs $116. This lab allows us to set up an amazing program and get you on a great path to healing. After that, to view and address more complex problems, labs cost from $200-$300.
Q: Do I have to order a lab and supplements?
No. You can achieve great benefits and really improve your health without the use of labs and supplements. However, labs and supplements are highly recommended and can allow us to make progress much more quickly, while also addressing any underlying issues you cannot fix with food and lifestyle changes alone.
